We are almost done with the first month of 2023 and many aspiring individuals out there are waking up motivated early in the morning to pursue the goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the year. But what about those who are stuck or already feel like it’s too late to start anything?
There is a strong attachment in our modern world to the concept of time and whilst it’s great that many are beginning to learn how to value and prioritize their hours of the day, the other side is taking it too heavily upon themselves. We see this manifesting as over-pushing ourselves to achieve something before a certain date, neglecting sleep to finish an assignment before the deadline, missing out on fun gatherings to finish work tasks, and the saddest of them all: developing a negative self-perception because WE were unable to meet the unrealistic expectations WE put on ourselves.
So what do we do in the instance of feeling like we missed out on the opportunity to start our goal(s)?
How do we move on from being “stuck”?
The first important concept you need to understand is that you never actually missed out on anything, you are not late, and you are not early. You are simply where you are supposed to be and the only person who determines the speed of the timeline and events is you. This is a challenging concept to accept and live by when you are scrolling through your Instagram feed that is filled with friends, family, and influencers “living their best lives” so STEP 1, close the app and take a deep breath because this is your journey and there is no point of comparing it to somebody else’s path.
STEP 2, take some time to reflect on the past year(s) and think about the following questions:
What have I achieved so far?
In December 2023, what does my life look like?
What is currently blocking me from living my ideal life?
What fears do I have about pursuing my ideal life or attaining it?
Am I strong enough to fail a couple of times until I succeed? Why or why not?
What resources do I currently have that will help me attain my ideal life?
Following these questions will help you identify what inner thoughts and perspectives are holding you back, what assets you can currently use to take a step forward, and what is it that you actually want in 2023.
STEP 3 MOVE. Take action today that will make you genuinely feel good, whether it contributed to your goals or not, do something small today that will boost your mood and put a smile on your face. Big change starts small and every small step is an achievement of its own, real change starts within you and each day you do something good for yourself is an investment toward the awakening you seek in the future.
